License Renewal Required Course

According to current Utah law, health care providers who prescribe controlled substances are required to complete 3.5 hours of continuing education on Schedule II and III controlled substances. (See Utah Code Section 58-37-6.5 for more details.) The intent is to reduce negative effects of controlled substances to patients in Utah.

Currently there are three approved courses that can be taken to fulfill the requirement. DOPL has them listed here on their website. In addition, DOPL requires controlled substance prescribers to complete a thirty-minute tutorial and exam pertaining to the Controlled Substance Database (CSD).

The UANA has a goal to develop a course that can be taken in 2017 to satisfy the requirement.
